After obtaining a degree in Economics, Carolyn had a long and successful career in the travel business organising specialist tours all over the UK and Europe. Having always been a keen gardener, garden tours were of particular interest to Carolyn and served to develop her knowledge of plants, gardens and design styles both domestically and internationally.

A funding initiative which sought to encourage women into the field of horticulture provided Carolyn with the opportunity to make the move into a horticultural career. Carolyn obtained a distinction in the RHS General Certificate in Horticulture at Kingston Maurward College nr. Dorchester. Further success in her studies of Garden Design and Garden History followed.

Having run her own successful business for many years, Sue took a career break and returned to education to continue studies in art and design. It was during the study of fine art and art history that Sue became aware of how her interest in gardens and plants was taking greater influence in her work. The incorporation of organic images, sculpture and art in nature were a recurring theme.

After achieving academic success in these subjects it was perhaps inevitable that her love of art and design and understanding of plants and gardening would come together and lead Sue to pursue a career in garden design. Studying at Kingston Maurward College, led to meeting Carolyn and upon qualifying in 2001, Florus Garden Design was formed.
